Restroom Access Card – Learn about Ally's Law

When a public restroom isn't available, there's a card that may help.

The Restroom Access Act, also known as Ally's Law, requires that retail establishments that do not have public restrooms provide access to employee-only restrooms for people who suffer from certain chronic conditions or who are pregnant. At the age of 14, Ally Bain, who suffers from Crohn's disease, was denied access to a bathroom while shopping. The experience gave Ally the motivation to lobby for change. On August 4, 2005, the bill was signed into law in Illinois as the Restroom Access Act. Since then, the law has been passed in many other states.
